What
is the minimum memory requirement for CDM?
You can install CDM with only 8MB (on-board) memory; but we strongly recommend that
you add additional memory
(8MB x 2, 16MB x 2, or 32MB x 2 EDO SIMM) in order to receive all the benefits of
a hard disk mirrored environment.

What
kind of hard disk drives can be connected to CDM, is there any capacity limitation
on hard disk drives?
All hard disk drives with IDE interface which is compliant with ATA standard (ATA-2,
ATA-3, ATA-4) can be connected to CDM and there is no
capacity limitation on hard disk drives. Here is the list of Allion tested hard disk
drives for CDM (this list will be updated regularly):

Is it necessary to format hard disk drives before connecting
to CDM?
No,
it's not necessary to format hard disk drives. After connecting the hard disk drives
to CDM on the first time, please do the following:
1. Go
to the HTTP administration page of CDM, click "Maintenance" menu and select "Hard
Drive Maintenance".
2. Select
a hard disk drive and click "Please select a device to initialize" to initialize the
hard disk drive. This operation
will delete all the data on the selected hard drive disk. Moreover, the hard disk
drive will not be initialized until CDM restarts.
|
Which
IDE channel is available for connecting hard drive disks?
You can
connect the HDD to any one of the four IDE channels on CDM. For better performance
and system integrity, we suggest connecting hard
drive disks to IDE channel #1 first, then #2, and then #3 and #4. For example, when
connecting 6 hard disk drives and 2 CD-ROM drives to CDM, we should:
Connect 6 hard disk drives to IDE channel #1, #2, and #3.
Connect 2 CD-ROM drives to IDE channel #4.
|
 |
Can
I connect a hard disk drive and a CD/DVD-ROM drives on a same IDE channel?
No, the
hard disk drive will be improperly initialized as a CD/DVD-ROM drive if you connect
the hard disk drive and the CD/DVD-ROM drives to a same
IDE channel. In addition, you will not be able to mirror CD images from the CD/DVD-ROM
drive to the hard disk drive under such a configuration.
|
How any hard disk drives can be connected to one CDM?
Up to
8 hard disk drives can be connected to one CDM. Please be aware that the two hard
disk drives connected to the same IDE channel
have to be configured as "one for master" and "another one for slave" respectively.
|
How
many CD images can be stored in a hard disk drive connected to CDM?
CDM allows
one hard disk drive to have 80 slots for storing mirrored CD images. Since one "slot"
stores one mirrored CD image, CDM
allows 80 mirrored CD images to be stored on one single hard disk drive.
|
 |
How
to configure a CD-ROM drive to be a mirror device on CDM?
Go to
the HTTP administration page of CDM. Click "Share Control" and select "Please select
a Physical Share device".
If the selected Physical Share is a CD/DVD-ROM device, the CD Mirror Function menu
will appear on the lower half of
the Physical Share Menu. By checking the "Enable" box of "Mirror CD" option, you can
designate the CD/DVD-ROM to
be the mirror device and mirror the CD images to a connected hard disk drive.
|
Will
CDM start the "CD mirror job" immediately after enabling the "Mirror CD" option?
No, you
have to open the door of the CD/DVD-ROM drive (insert a CD title if there is none
inside the CD/DVD-ROM drive), then close the door.
The "CD mirror job" will start immediately after the CD title is successfully mounted. |
How
can I make sure if the mirror job is successfully completed?
There are messages to indicate the status and the result of the mirror job. All these
messages can be easily acquired by viewing the
HTTP administration page of CDM "Statistics", "Run-Time Event Log".
|
 |
What are the meanings of the CD mirror options?
Auto
& Smart Mode:
When this option is enabled, CDM will automatically select the first available hard
disk drive and slot number to perform
the CD mirror job.
2. CDM will check if there is an existing identical mirrored CD image. If there is
an existing identical mirrored CD image,
CDM will not perform the CD mirror job.
Auto & Force:
1. When this option is enabled, CDM will automatically select the first available
hard disk drive and slot number to
perform the CD mirror job.
2. CDM will not check if there is an existing identical mirrored CD image and will
perform the CD mirror job directly.
Manual mode:
When this option is enabled, you have to manually select the available hard disk drive
and slot number for CDM to
mirror the CD image.
Mirror immediately:
When this option is enabled, the CD mirror job will start immediately after the
CD title is inserted and successfully mounted.
Schedule Mirror date/time:
When this option is enabled, the CD mirror job will start according to the scheduled
date and time, which refers to the internal
real-time clock built inside CDM (please also refer to the "Server setting" menu of
the HTTP administration page of CDM).
Prioritized network access:
If this option is enabled, the priority of network access is higher than the CD
mirror job. That means the CD mirror job will take
more time to complete since CDM will allocate more system resource for network access.
|
 |
Can I mirror several CD images to hard disk drives simultaneously?
Yes, this is an outstanding feature of CDM. For example, if there are 2 hard disk
drives and 6 CD/DVD-ROM drives connected to a CDM server,
you can configure 6 CD/DVD-ROM drives as the "mirror devices" and simultaneously start
6 concurrent mirror jobs to mirror 6 CD images to the hard disk drives.
|
Can I mirror DVD title to a hard disk drive?
Yes, DVD titles with ISO-9660 header and image size less than 4GB can be mirrored. |
What is Current Mirroring List ?
What kind information can I see in?
Current Mirroring List was located on "Statistics" in HTTP administrator page. |
What information can I get from
'Current Mirroring List'?
You can get
the following information from 'Current Mirroring List':Source:
The source of mirror task. It could be local CD/DVD device or the computer name of
remote workstation.
Target: The destination where CD will be mirrored to, include the hard disk number
and slot number.
Size: The size of the mirrored CD or Image Container.
Completed: The size and percentage of completed mirror task.
Total job: Total number of mirror task.
The information on this page will refresh automatically every 15 minutes. |

How many "physical shares" (CDs or CD images)
can be redirected beneath each "virtual share"? Up
to 63 "physical shares"
(CDs or CD images) can be redirected and allocated under a "virtual share". |
